Care Instructions for your Quilts:

  1. Light~Chemicals~Heat~will age the quilt so it is important to limit exposure to all three!
  2. Washing your quilts~use warm water or cold with a very gentle soap or quilt soap. NEVER DRY CLEAN.
  3. After the first washing, you will notice the quilt appears crumpled or older. This is a normal characteristic of cotton quilts and is due to the shrinkage of the cotton batting. Some people will pre-wash their fabric and batting prior to quilting and this will prevent the crumpled look.
  4. Storing ~ Displaying your quilts, store all your quilts in a cotton cloth bag or pillowcase. About twice a year open the quilt and refold it differently than before. This prevents creases caused by folding in the same place each time. Store and display away from direct sunlight. A good quality fabric (purchased at a quilt shop) will not fade if you follow the above directions. I use film on my windows to prevent the ultra violet rays from reaching my quilts.
  5. If using a wood rack, hanger, or storage area, do not let the quilt touch unfinished wood. Oil from the wood is absorbed by the fabric, creating permanent stains. Wood can be sealed with polyurethane to prevent this or use a piece of fabric or acid free tissue paper.
  6. When hanging the quilt, be sure that it is supported along the entire top edge. A hanging sleeve should be attached. Hanging by a just a few tabs along the top is not sufficient support for the quilt and will cause sagging of the quilt and put a strain on the stitches.
